Power Hour

Helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve Academic Success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning

  • How it helps – In 2016, 80% of BGCLK members met or exceeded the expected gain on standardized reading and math tests.
Triple Play

A comprehensive health and wellness program that strives to improve the overall health of Club members ages 6-18 by increasing daily physical activity, teaching them about good nutrition and helping them develop healthy relationships.

  • How it helps – In 2016, 84% of BGCLK members were physically active at least five days per week.
SMART Moves

A prevention and education program addressing problems such as drug and alcohol use and healthy relationship choices. Subject matter varies by age.

  • How it helps – In 2016, BGCLK members saw a 15% increase in SMART Moves scores and increased knowledge of making safe decisions.
Project Learn

Reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of young people during the time they spend at the Club.

  • How it helps – In 2016, 2,824 kids participated in Project Learn activities such as cooking and nutrition with Douglas County 4-H.
Torch Club

Small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls before they enter high school. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle that helps Club staff meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their life.

  • How it helps – In 2016, 65% of BGCLK members practiced good character and citizenship through Torch Club and SMART Moves activities.
KidzLit

A reading enrichment program designed specifically for use in out-of-school settings, though it is also successful in the classroom. It increases young people’s motivation to read and builds their literacy skills.

  • How it helps – Last year, 1,231 total kids were served through KidzLit, which includes unique and fun literacy activities such as field trips and even cooking activities! Our kids saw a 10% comprehension increase in 2016.
STEM

A mentoring program pairs caring adults from different community partners with students in STEM Clubs during the after school program. Both students and mentors will work together to complete activities and projects through STEMfinity kits, technology and additional curriculum.

  • How it helps – More than 350 Club kids did fun, interactive, informational experiments through STEM programming in 2016.
