LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, Kan. (BGCLK) proudly announces the appointment of Laci Maltbie as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective March 4, 2024. The decision was reached unanimously by the Board of Directors following an extensive search process conducted with the assistance of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CEO Search Team.

With a distinguished 25-year career in the non-profit sector, Maltbie brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to education, inclusive programming, workforce development and organizational leadership. In her most recent role as the Director of Development for the KU Endowment Association, she showcased her leadership and development skills as she collaborated with faculty and doctors at the KU Medical Center’s School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Health Professions to develop strategic partnerships and secure funding to support life-changing initiatives.

Prior to joining the KU Endowment Association, Maltbie served as the CEO of Sherwood Autism Center in Kansas City, Mo., where she led initiatives related to specialized education, workforce development, and advocacy for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. Under her guidance, Sherwood Autism Center successfully executed a multimillion-dollar capital campaign, “Opportunities for a Lifetime,” expanding the organization’s resources and diversifying funding.

Maltbie’s commitment to youth empowerment is evident in her long history as a teacher and school administrator, developing programs throughout the West Coast and Midwest regions that raised standards for children’s services. She believes that every child deserves a great future through quality education and community resources—a belief that resonates deeply with the mission of BGCLK.

For Maltbie, the opportunity is an honor. “I am thrilled to be joining such an amazing team and community! I look forward to building relationships and collaborating with the staff, board of directors, donors and community stakeholders who have played a role in making the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence the amazing community resource that it is. Together, we can continue to help impact the positive outcomes for youth who need it the most.”

Maltbie earned her Master of Special Education degree from National University and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Wichita State University. In her free time, she enjoys going to the movies, traveling and spending time in nature with her family.

As CEO, Maltbie will be responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction, overseeing operational activities, managing financial resources, developing innovative programming, enhancing brand reputation, recruiting top talent, fostering stakeholder relationships and serving as the primary ambassador and communicator for BGCLK.

The Board of Directors and staff of BGCLK extend their warmest welcome to Maltbie and eagerly anticipate the positive impact she will bring to the organization and the Lawrence community.
