Serve More Youth – Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence

Serve More Youth

How can we find ways to serve more youth in our community?

  • Bring Elementary Sites to Capacity
  • Programming on Non-School Days
  • Explore Serving Youth Outside of Lawrence

Strategies

Bring Elementary Sites to Capacity

  1. Capacity at all sites (based on need and safety protocols)
    1. Assessment at each site
      1. Identify gaps
      2. Barriers for non BGC members
    2. Establish a capacity number based on need and safety protocols
    3. Recruitment plans (site specific) created by staff
    4. Funding availability for sites based on need/ADA
    5. Staffing patterns established based on need and safety protocols

Programming on Non-School Days

A) Identify the barriers to running full day programs on days out of school
  1. Building usage (which elementary sites/spaces would be available on those days)
  2. Scheduled calendar days off
  3. Investigate need for programming during winter break
  4. Plan for challenges in bringing sites together for programming
    1. Behavior standards, youth with special needs (behavioral, allergies, etc.), varying staff
  5. Availability of staff
B) Funding availability-investigate separate fees for programming on non-school days
C) Develop proposal
D) Present proposal for approval to:
  1. Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence Board of Directors
  2. USD 497 School District personnel
  3. Community partners (as needed)
E) Implementation of plan
  1. Ongoing evaluation/feedback from stakeholders
  2. Make adjustments as needed

Youth Outside of Lawrence

A) Explore needs by location (Eudora, Baldwin, Perry-Lecompton)
  1. Before/After school programming
  2. Outreach for different programming (i.e. sports, project learn, etc.
B) If needs outside of Lawrence exist, evaluate the respective community’s ability to support programs to meet those needs
  1. Develop viable plan
  2. Engage key players
  3. Assess funding availability
