Kansas Governor Laura Kelly issued an executive order to close all kindergarten through 12th grade schools in the state of Kansas for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. The closure was announced via press conference on Tuesday, March 17. This includes closing all Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence locations, as every Club site is located within a Lawrence Public Schools facility.
The Governor’s order reflects the urgency of the COVID-19 pandemic, which supersedes the authority of Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and City of Lawrence officials. More details from the Governor’s order may be found at govstatus.egov.com/ coronavirus.
During this time, the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence will do everything possible to get information to you about ways we can be there for our young people when things seem scary and unsure. We miss each of our kids and their families. Please continue to watch your email inboxes as our staff will reach out to you with resources for food service, academic enrichment and ways to provide fun activities during this difficult time.
Those who need us most is at the heart of all that we do. While we do not have answers for you at this time, I can promise we will find a way to keep impacting the young people who have such a profound impact on us.
