LAWRENCE, Kan. – AT&T has teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence to distribute 200 laptops to their network of families and students to provide more access to the Internet and the myriad digital tools and opportunities available online. The laptops were provided thanks to an AT&T donation to Human I-T, and will be distributed to families on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the Center for Great Futures (2910 Haskell Avenue). This contribution is part of the AT&T Connected Learning initiative, created as part of AT&T’s company wide commitment to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption.

“The team at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence works tirelessly to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens,” said Jim Jamison, President of AT&T Kansas. “One way they achieve their mission is by providing educational programs that help young people prepare for success in school, on the job and in life. I’m glad we were able to work with them to provide laptops for students and families in Lawrence.”

Along with the new technology, students also will have access to The Achievery, a free online learning platform created by AT&T to provide K-12 students with engaging and entertaining content paired with learning activities.

AT&T launched AT&T Connected Learning as a companywide commitment to address the digital divide. From 2021-23, they’ve focused on investing in connectivity and technology, digital literacy and education solutions to help today’s learners succeed inside and outside of the classroom. Since 2008, AT&T has been dedicated to programs that help millions of students across all 50 states and around the world, particularly those in underserved communities.

“One of the best parts of Boys & Girls Club is providing opportunities to the kids we serve,” said BGCLK Interim CEO Dr. Frank Harwood. “This is one such example. When you pair together an organization who wants to give their families every chance at success with a company who is committed to improving lives – great things happen. We are grateful to AT&T and excited to see our families receive technology that is vital to our members’ education and their families’ everyday life.”
