Colby Wilson started at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence in 2012 as the Executive Director. He came to Lawrence after a 10-year stint at the Boys & Girls Club of Tacoma, Washington. Colby graduated with a degree in American Studies from Penn State (1998) and earned his graduate degree in Sports Management from Seattle Pacific (2004) before joining the Movement. He has been a vital piece of making the “Don and Bev Gardner Center for Great Futures” vision into a reality, a facility that will allow the Boys & Girls Club the opportunity to serve five times as many teens in Lawrence.
Along with his BGC work, Colby is widely known for his talents as a chili maker, foursquare player and – of course – golf club scrubber. His favorite thing to do in Lawrence is taking a family bike ride to the farmer’s market. Colby lives in Lawrence with his wife Mandy and their two kids, Blake and Sidney.
Best (well, worst) advice you have ever gotten from a Club kid:
“Eat this jelly bean.” – Fifth grader convincing him to eat a vomit-flavored jelly bean
What makes the Boys & Girls Club special:
“The people. The dedicated staff and board of directors who are all committed to the mission and are working together to make an impact.”
Words to live by:
“Never mistake activity for achievement.” – John Wooden
